What lies ahead will increasingly cause us to seek new answers for how to live with uncertainty and fear, suffering and death.
The answers for how to cope, how to allow ourselves to be transformed in the best possible way by today's experiences and those to come, lie in reframing these experiences as moments of choice for how to best walk our time on this earth as a spiritual path. We will all die. And when we do, we will confront the question, "Did I live well?" Framing our lives as a spiritual path leads us to challenge ourselves to live the best existence we can until that happens - to serve the light, to serve that which we hold highest and most holy. Content has been added to this 5th Anniversary Edition that draws us into spiritual opportunities the worldwide COVID-19 pandemic is creating, as will the challenging times yet to come once this pandemic is behind us. Indeed, it is through engaging opportunities for spiritual growth that all challenges provide that we will heal and grow as individuals, communities, nations and as one shared humanity around the world.
Another set of events that has also made writing a new edition of this book necessary. I am speaking of the information that has come forth about Joao Teixeira de Faria, the man known as John of God, a spiritual healer in Brazil. My encounters with this man - and more importantly the spirit brings which I now hold in my web of belief to be agents of extraordinary healings, and miracles that have transformed my life and the lives of those I love - have played a significant role in my spiritual journey. In December 2018, six women appeared on a Brazilian television show each alleging they were sexually assaulted by Joao. Since that time, more than 300 women have come forward in sworn police reports of being sexually assaulted by him. As of this writing, he has been convicted on multiple counts of sexual assault, with additional cases being investigated.
The first edition of joyfully Shattered provided questioning, probing reports of the work of John of God, but it did not question the man behind the work. Given what has come to light, this cannot stand as the last word.
It has always been unacceptable for men to mistreat women. Today each of us is called upon to stand firm and clear in condemning all mistreatment of women, including violation of appropriate sexual boundaries. For this reason, I can no longer refer to this man as John of God. Instead, except when the requirements of accurate and effective storytelling dictate otherwise I will refer to him by his name, Joao, or as Medium Joao, because serving as a medium was his role (as is explained in Chapter VIII that describes my experiences with his work).
Our world is entering a challenging and potentially dark time. We need all who serve the light to step forward now, I hope this new 5th Anniversary Edition of Joyfully Shattered will provide you valuable resources to help you do your part

Right of withdrawal
If you are a consumer you can withdraw from the contract in accordance with the following. Consumer means any natural person who is acting for purposes which are outside his trade, business, craft or profession.
Information regarding the right of withdrawal
Statutory right to withdraw
You have the right to withdraw from this contract within 14 days without giving any reason.
The withdrawal period will expire after 14 days from the day on which you acquire, or a third party other than the carrier and indicated by you acquires, physical possession of the last good or the last lot or piece.
To exercise the right of withdrawal, electronically fill in and submit a clear statement on our website, under "My Purchases" in "My Account". We will communicate to you an acknowledgement of receipt of such a withdrawal on a durable medium (e.g. by e-mail) without delay.
To meet the withdrawal deadline, it is sufficient for you to send your communication concerning your exercise of the right of withdrawal before the withdrawal period has expired.
Effects of withdrawal
If you withdraw from this contract, we will reimburse to you all payments received from you, including the costs of delivery (except for the supplementary costs arising if you chose a type of delivery other than the least expensive type of standard delivery offered by us).
We may make a deduction from the reimbursement for loss in value of any goods supplied, if the loss is the result of unnecessary handling by you.
We will make the reimbursement without undue delay, and not later than 14 days after the day on which we are informed about your decision to withdraw from this contract.
We will make the reimbursement using the same means of payment as you used for the initial transaction, unless you have expressly agreed otherwise; in any event, you will not incur any fees as a result of such reimbursement.
We may withhold reimbursement until we have received the goods back, or you have supplied evidence of having sent back the goods, whichever is the earliest.
You shall send back the goods or hand them over to AHA-BUCH GmbH, Einbeck, Germany, without undue delay and in any event not later than 14 days from the day on which you communicate your withdrawal from this contract to us. The deadline is met if you send back the goods before the period of 14 days has expired. You will have to bear the direct cost of returning the goods. You are only liable for any diminished value of the goods resulting from the handling other than what is necessary to establish the nature, characteristics and functioning of the goods.
Exceptions to the right of withdrawal
The right of withdrawal does not apply to:
- The delivery of newspapers, journals or magazines with the exception of subscription contracts; and
- The supply of digital content which is not supplied on a tangible medium (e.g. on a CD or DVD) if you accepted when you placed your order that we could start to deliver it, and that you could not withdraw once delivery had started.
