The beginning of the sheep and wool industry in Australia coincided with the landing of the first fleet in 1788 when Governor Phillip arrived with the seventy 'fat atil' sheep from the Cape of Good Hope. Those were used for food and later replaced by thirty sheep from Calcutta and some coarse-wooled sheep from Ireland which arrived in 1793. Seller Inventory # 003148
