Item description from seller

A scarce copy of Cuthbert Shaw's poetry written after the death of his young wife in 1768. A scarce work. This work is a poem that Cuthbert Shaw wrote after the death of his young wife in 1768. The poem became very successful when it was published as it caught the tastes of the day. Shaw was an English poet and actor, who published his first poem, 'Liberty', in 1756. He also wrote 'The Four Farthing Candles', 'The Race', and 'An Elegy on the Death of Charles Yorke, the Lord Chancellor'. With an illustrated title page, one plate, and one engraved tailpiece. Disbound, missing the boards, with evidence of having been previously bound. Externally, a little marking to the front and rear wraps. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright with only the odd spot, mostly to the illustrated title page and plate. Good.
