Paperback. What happens when the systems meant to support the inclusion of dual language learners and children with disabilities begin to undermine it? How does an educator remain grounded when policy and power collide with purpose? How does an educator remain grounded when policy and power collide with purpose? In Shattered and Becoming: A Teacher's Journey Between Policy and Purpose, Mr. Andrew returns to his inclusive early childhood classroom confident in his convictions about connection, belonging, and leadership. He is unprepared for how quickly curriculum mandates, language restrictions, and administrative pressure fracture what he thought he understood. As tensions rise and trust begins to splinter, he must navigate the space between compliance and integrity while continuing to serve children with disabilities, dual-language learners, and their families.Through moments of rupture, resilience, and hard-won clarity, he discovers that inclusion is not sustained by certainty or policy alone, but by presence, courage, and the willingness to remain open when clarity is hardest to find. This is a story of what breaks, what endures, and who we become in the tension between systems and the human heart. When the systems meant to support inclusion begin to undermine it, one educator must choose to comply, resist, or rebuild, discovering what breaks when purpose collides with policy.
