Item description from seller

Dublin, London & New York: W.B. Kelly; Simpkin, Marshall & Co.; J.W. Bouton, 1866. William John Fitz-Patrick (1830-1895), Irish historian, writes here about Francis Higgins (1746-1802), a rather shady Dublin character. Strongly anti-United Irishmen, he may have informed on Lord Edward Fitzgerald (1763-1798). This is a Very Good copy of the Third Edition, "Completely Re-Cast, with New Matter, Valuable Documents hitherto Unpublished, and Illustrations from Contemporary Prints." Green cloth binding, very bright, with gilt lettering and a caricature of the squire on the front panel. Clean text; 329 pages, with a Supplemental Note and 2 pages of publisher's adverts. Approximately one-half of the text is actually an interesting "Appendix." The first 4 pages, which are further publisher's adverts, have been removed; linen tape has been added as a reinforcement here, and to both gutters. Contemporary bookplate on the front paste-down. Rather uncommon in the early editions. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Third Edition. Hard Cover. Very Good Minus/No Jacket. 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall. …
