Some secrets should have stayed buried.
He demanded the truth from the woman who had been at his side for weeks. Her answer was far worse than anything he could have imagined. Now he has more questions and complications than ever before.
He builds airships. He would rather be elbow-deep in an engine than dragged into the politics his family name demands.
But when he stumbles onto evidence of a hidden weapons program on a remote island, the assassins change tactics. Crossbow bolts become bombs. A zealot with powerful allies wants him dead. Behind the zealot: a secret society with genocide dressed up as doctrine, building ancient weapons, and an eight-month countdown to a campaign of destruction aimed at every free province on the continent.
The woman at his side is more dangerous than she lets on, and what is growing between them is clouding their judgment and fracturing the loyalties they need most.
To stop the countdown, he will fly his airship into a thunderstorm with a crew of engineers and soldiers. Not everyone will make it home.
The weapons are almost ready, built by a man who believes he is saving civilization.
Failure does not mean defeat. It means extinction.
