Paperback. This book is an insight into the lives of British women of South Asian heritage, living right here in Britain today. Born into two very different cultures, these stories display the struggles faced by these women as they try to navigate their way through life, juggling two very different cultures in a rapidly changing world. Read the stories of British born Nafisa who was forced to forget the love of her life and marry her first cousin. Read about Yasmin and the devastating aftermath of sexual abuse suffered at the hands of her Indian uncle. Read about the western lifestyle that Shabeena lived, the sex, drugs, betrayals and repercussions she faced. Read about Parveen, brought to the UK by her husband to then be dumped for an American bride and passport. Read about Farzana who went to university, found love and tasted freedom. Laugh and cry with Salma and Ameera as they talk about mosque, physical abuse, Djinns, a controlling culture and their lives today as modern, unmarried, British Indian women. This book is a door into a hidden world, illustrating how cultural values can allow human rights violations to prosper, how religion, cultures, customs and traditions are keeping women shackled and how reputation and honour is worth more than happiness, freedom and love.
