Reembering Caleb
Nine-year-old Caleb vanished without a trace. One moment, he was walking a windswept beach with his parents along the rugged coast of Maine. The next, he was gone. No body. No answers. Only the endless rhythm of the sea and the impossible burden of not knowing. Years pass, but grief does not obey the calendar. His mother returns again and again to the shoreline, haunted by memories, questions, and the quiet hope that refuses to die. Around her, the world insists on moving forward. The tides continue to rise and fall. Seasons change. Yet some losses remain suspended in time. Drawing on one of humanity's oldest myths of love, loss, and the search for what can never truly be recovered, The Seventh Tide reimagines an ancient story for the modern world. Set against the haunting beauty of the Maine coast, W. Sumner Davis explores the psychology of grief, the fragile line between hope and despair, and the timeless question every grieving parent must eventually face: How do you live when part of your heart has disappeared?
Rich with symbolism, emotional depth, and Jungian insight, The Seventh Tide is more than a mystery. It is a meditation on memory, faith, identity, and the enduring power of love. For readers of literary fiction, psychological drama, and mythic retellings, this unforgettable novel reminds us that while the sea may take many things, it cannot wash away the bonds that define us.
Sometimes the greatest journey is not finding what was lost—but learning who we become while searching.
