Set Me Free, Alfred's highly anticipated second compilation of poems, has been nearly six years in the making. There are three chapters in the book that deal with the general topics of love, judgment, and emotional pain. If you have ever been there for someone else or if you've needed someone to be there for you, then you will appreciate the words in this book. The same applies to the broken hearted, those who are in love, those who have been hurt, those who have been judged or oppressed, and those who simply have an appreciation for poetry. Alfred has used some of his personal experiences as well as some of his observations in order craft this inspirational collection of poems.

Chapter One
Set Me Free (To Love)
You Have a Friend in Me
Sometimes, you'll find that things are not what you expected them to be. Your dreams may not align with the things that you actually see. Stand firm and face your fears; you don't have to flee. I'm right here beside you. You have a friend in me.
You're such a good person. Some see that as your weakness. But you are a gift to the world. You are mighty in your meekness. Continue to be kind. Be an example for others to see. I'm right here beside you. You have a friend in me.
You were my encouragement when my head was down. I feel joyous whenever you are around. You opinions are well respected. And your advice is always sound. There is a smile on my face Because I am thinking of you right now.
Even in your absence, Your presence, I clearly see. I will replicate your loyalty. You have a friend in me.
I Can't Describe You
My lines can't describe you. Still, I sit with my pen and try. To illustrate the brightest sunshine ... In a clear blue sky
A rainbow that stretches across the horizon ... After the rain has gone The pot of gold found by a man ... Who had been searching for so long.
I don't have the words to describe you. But there's one thing that I know. You are the rose from the concrete ... That continues to grow.
A blind man could pass by And notice your beauty I, myself am a student of your ways You can call me yours truly.
My lines can't describe you. Still, I sit with my pen and try. To illustrate your comforting smile I don't understand why ... Friends, they come and go But our bond is everlasting You are a daughter of love And I'm glad you didn't pass me.
Imagine a tormented man who pursues freedom. He is trying to escape the night. He rejoices with his heart and soul ... The moment he reaches daylight ... You make feel like that.
This is a poem of adoration meant to be read to very special significant others! Do you know of anyone who is so wonderful ... that it is hard to give an accurate description of them?
Let's Dream for a While
Come closer to me. Let's dream for a while. Let's pour some hot tea ... And watch it steam for a while.
Let's turn off our phones And close the curtains and shades. Let's break the key inside the lock This is our sweet escape.
You and I hand in hand. It's difficult to explain. Even harder to understand You have a fire that cannot be quenched. You gave me one kiss ... And I've been yours every since.
I don't care about your past or my past The things we used to do ... This is a new beginning. It's time for some new rules:
Rule #1: We'll spend our days in the sun Rule #2: It's all about me and you. Rule #3: Our hearts are now free Rule #4: We won't hurt anymore.
I just want you to ...
Come closer to me. Let's dream for a while. Let's pour some hot tea ... And watch it steam for a while.
You are a worthy reward ... For my dreary days and lonely nights Let this enchantment last forever more. I'm going to treat you right.
I know that others will come about, And try to lead us both on But temptation is so weak, When the presence of love is strong.
Let's become a shining example of truthfulness For the outsiders to see Let's commit and stay dedicated ... I to you and you to me.
We can talk again later, But for now, I just want you to ...
Come closer to me. Let's dream for a while. Let's pour some hot tea ... And watch it steam for a while.
I believe in the strong, unbreakable bond that two people can share. Given trust, loyalty, and honesty ... two people can become one.
Make Me Want to Stay
Have you ever heard a man express himself in such an honest way? One who refuses to be stereotyped by what the others say. They say that I refuse to commit and I just want to play.... But that's just a useless excuse. Make me want to stay.
Make me want to stay. Make me want to pray ... And give thanks for you when I wake up everyday.
Don't make me walk away from that look in your eyes ... Glaring insecurities left behind by that last man who told you all those lies. Don't remind me of any woman I've been with before. Let your guard down and be honest. Make me want some more.
Make want to stay. Make want to chase ... Beyond your beautiful looks and nighttime negligee
Don't allow me to lose myself inside of intimate relations. Keep me interested in who you are with open and honest conversations. I want to hear a different language, not just the one from your body. Keep coming after me ... Instead of thinking you've got me.
Make me want to stay. And hold your hand everyday ... If that other man doesn't understand, then turn and walk away.
Immaturity will never respect our fidelity. I want you to handle those situations with ease, like a lady. Make me want you even more because of the respect that you pay me. Keep me around by being a lady in streets. Allow the other half to be discreet. Make me not want to let go because what I have is so unique.
Make me want to stay. Make me want to pray. Make me see more than a woman every time I see your face.
Make we want to stay. Let those outsiders hate. You have deal with some tension when you're on your way fate. You understand my point because you see it every day. Be mine all the time love, Make me want to stay.
Have you ever heard a man express himself in such an honest way? One who refuses to be stereotyped by what the others say. They say that I refuse to commit and I just want to play.... But that's just a useless excuse. Make me want to stay.
There is a country song called, "Stand by Your Man". I'm not ultra familiar with its lyrics, but many women should do just that. So many people speak of rekindling flames. I say just be attentive enough to keep it alive.
Can You Love My Yesterdays Away
Can you love my yesterdays away ... With the things that you do and the things that you say? I don't need another lover Never to have; only to hold I seek the kind of union that can captivate my soul.
Can you love me beyond all the facades? Way beneath the surface? For me, another "hi" and "bye" Would be pointless and worthless
Will you be one who dials my number ... And demands more of me ... When in all reality, you don't even understand me?
I'm tired of the dance I'm tired of the shuffle Love is reality Love is not a hustle.
I'd rather ask you these questions now Before we get involved This is my alternative to being out of love And then wondering was the ride worth the fall.
Can you love my yesterdays away? With the things that you do and the things that you say? I don't need another lover ... Never to have; only to hold I seek the kind of union that can captivate my soul.
In truth, no one can love your yesterdays away. What was the point of writing the poem? I believe that many people WISH that someone could come and erase all the painful memories away. I am not convinced that things work that way. I do believe that you can meet someone who is sincere enough to make the anticipation for tomorrow more important that the reflection of days gone by.
Love is Not a Noun
Love is not a noun. A noun is a person, place, or thing. Love is not tangible or stagnant. Love has the ability to transcend our thoughts and the power to electrify our dreams.
Love is a verb. A verb is a state of being, an occurrence, or an action. Love is not a word to be discarded in the morning ... After last night's satisfaction
Love answers the call at every ring of the phone. Love doesn't disguise a lie by using a different ringtone. Love doesn't use you and then abandon you where you stand. Love is patient; love is kind. Love reaches for your hand.
Contrary to popular belief, love does change. Just as flowers bloom from planted seeds ... Love evolves just the same. Love is an optimistic "how?" Instead of a pessimistic "why?"
Love does not dismantle your hopes ... Love never has the intent of making you quit or making you cry. Love gives you a comforting embrace. Love encourages you to rise once more and keep your ambitions high.
I do believe that love is a word that is abused time and time again. It takes time and MATURITY to understand what love is and what it can do. Those same ingredients, mixed with a little heartache, can teach you what love is not.
I Saw a Dove Fly
Falling in and out of love leaves the beautiful young dove on the branch with a cold stare. Through all the kisses and the hugs and the touches and the rubs, She wonders, was she ever really there? She finds that she was lost in the midst ... And she missed all the hints that the ride would take her down.
Now, she's grounded on the branch, Afraid to give love another chance ... Her only look is a frown. As she strolls down memory lane, She's taunted by the clear blue skies. She sees all of her friends filled with cheers and joy.
Finally, she begins to cry. A young eagle hears her sound. He slows his great soar to a glide. He lands on her branch ... Just by chance ... She tells him about all the old lies. He falls in love with her stare and he takes it as a sign ... As their stories exchange, they both refrain ... They fear what they could find.
Instantaneously, they soar to see pain no more. Their destination is the sun. The pain that she once bore exists no more. She now has a love that can't be undone. Her wings flap freely. She no longer sinks in pain from the deceit and lies.
For little old me, this was a soulful sight to see. For once, the undetermined made a rise. Now, all I do is search the skies that are blue In hopes of seeing another dove fly.
This is a beautiful illustration of how one can discover love. This one is a favorite of many singles who feel that they are ready to meet their respective eagle or dove. I'll be watching the skies!
Mrs. Coretta Scott King
Down here, we are crying. Our hearts are filled with grief. But I know that God is smiling. Because one of his most precious angels has been set free
You loved, comforted, and supported One on the world's greatest men He battled the cruel world on the outside. You gave him peace within.
How unselfish you were! Beyond the many tears you wept, You encouraged your husband to keep on marching He lived and died for someone else.
You took care of four children On the days and nights when he was away Your life is an ever-shinning example For all people today
You were not bitter to the world After an assassin murdered the King You simply picked up the torch of justice That ignited the Dream.
I thank you; we thank you! For all that you have done. Your life will change lives For many generations to come
Down here, were are crying. Our hearts are filled with grief. But I just know that God is smiling! Because one of his most precious angels has been set free
We love you Mrs. Coretta Scott King
