"Set up by Miró, the Foundation is a dynamic centre where art experts and the public in general come in contact not only with his own work but also with the main currents in 20th-century art. Josep Lluís Sert created an open-plan structure where interior communicates with the exterior, producing a perfect balance between architecture and landscape. The basic material is reinforced concrete painted white. On the outside, the marks left by the shuttering are combined with prefabricated panels of a granular texture, while the white interior walls create a restful atmosphere. Other features ? such as the terracotta tiles, the wooden edgings to the steps, are, like the colour, typical of vernacular architecture in the Mediterranean. The austere yet pleasing forms of Sert's designs are of similar origin: the central patio, the apertures and the shallow vaulted ceilings. Distinctive features are the octagonal tower housing the Auditorium, the Library and an exhibition room." ; Black and white photographs; 6.75 X 4.25 X 1 inches; 164 pages.
