Are you seriously going to ruin your whole evening because someone replied "ok" with a full stop?
You're not alone. Most of us carry around a surprising amount of unnecessary stress. We replay arguments in the shower, spend Sunday dreading Monday, fight about toothpaste, and lose sleep over comments nobody else even remembers.
Are You Serious? is a warm, witty and genuinely useful guide to putting down the weight you never needed to carry.
Meet the Carters: Sarah, a teacher who can manage a classroom of eleven-year-olds but can't stop replaying a remark from a wedding six years ago; Mark, who reads every email from his boss like a coded threat; their teenage daughter, who communicates mostly in sighs; and a grandfather who runs the family group chat with absolute authority. Through their misadventures, from a scratched new car to a toothpaste war to an anniversary cake meant for someone called Mr. Gordon, you'll laugh at their mistakes and quietly recognise your own.
Inside, you'll discover how to:
- Stop overthinking and tell real problems from imaginary ones
- Stop taking everything personally
- Handle difficult colleagues and pointless meetings without bringing the stress home
- Argue less, listen more, and fight fairly when it really matters
- Laugh at your own mistakes without putting yourself down
- Make your home, workplace and friendships lighter, happier places to be
Thirty short, entertaining chapters, each with a relatable story, a "Seriousness Test" and simple tips you can try the same day. Read it from start to finish, or open any chapter that matches the kind of day you're having.
This isn't a book that tells you to "just be positive." It takes real problems seriously, and helps you stop making the small ones worse.
Take your responsibilities seriously. Stop taking every little thing so seriously.
Perfect for working professionals, couples, parents, overthinkers, and anyone who could use a good laugh and a little perspective.
