Item description from seller

A scarce copy of this guide to "honest" nutrition by British pioneer of the organic movement, Edgar J. Saxon. The second edition of this scarce nutritional volume from British environmentalist, naturopath and alternative health writer, Edgar J. Saxon. Very scarce to find copies as early as this. With the publisher's original unclipped dust wrapper.Between the wars, Saxon created the first health food restaurants known as "Vitamin Cafés" and was founding member and former president of the Nature Cure Association of Great Britain. Similar to his other books, this volume promotes a diet of "honest foods" or whole foods, and discusses sugar, starch, protein, fats and alkaline across common foods and their alternatives. It also offers "illustrative recipes" putting his advice into practise, including dishes such as dandelion salad, carrot and cream tonic, and winter vegetable puree. With four leaves of publisher's advertisements to the rear. In the original cloth binding. With the original unclipped dust wrapper. Externally, very smart, with discolouration to the cloth edges and spine. With minor bumping to the extremities. Dust wrapper is smart, with tape reinforcements to the edges. With chips to the spine head and tail and minor losses to the turns. With a small contemporary ink inscription to the front cover and a couple spots and handling marks to the wrap. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are generally bright and clean, with minor offsetting to the half title page and an ownership bookplate tipped in to the front free endpaper. With the odd spot. Very Good Indeed.…
