About this Item
Blue-green cloth. 480 pp. A collection of writings by William E. Channing on a variety of topics, including Christianity, self-culture, etc. No essays with his views on slavery apparently included. William E. Channing was a Unitarian preacher who spoke on a variety of subjects. While addressing slavery in a book, he was not originally an abolitionist, holding racist views in which he envisioned released enslaved people as still needing overseers due to his view that the enslaved people would become lazy (see Wikipedia). GOOD condition. Ex-library with faded writing on the spine and stamping on the inside front cover and first endpaper. Heavy uneven fading to the covers, with areas of faint spotting. Mostly minor soiling, with several small ink stains to the spine. Cloth frayed and worn along the extremities. Owner's inscription in ink. Seller Inventory # 019033
