This book explores the European experience during the long armistice period (1918 - 1939) by examining various aspects of culture and society beyond the political and military domains. The author's approach emphasizes the historical context of the events, nudging readers to analyze history using their personal experiences as reference points. By probing economic, social, religious, and intellectual changes, this book offers a multi -dimensional perspective on this era by addressing the ramifications of the First World War and its impact on Europe's social and political landscapes. The author argues that this period was not merely a pause between conflicts but rather a time of profound change that shaped the landscape of the 20th century. Through the use of innovative methodologies and analytical frameworks, this book provides insights into the dynamics that influenced Europe during the interwar period. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. …

- Political Theory and History
This collection frames Binkley’s work in three broad areas: the peace movements and war-era diplomacy, the practical craft of scholarship and documentation, and the ideas and institutions shaping modern history. It includes a foreword by Luther H. Evans and an introductory essay that reflects on Binkley’s contributions, methods, and influence, making it a valuable resource for students of history and archival practice.
What you’ll experience
- Essays tracing major threads in 20th-century diplomacy and international cooperation.
- Discussion of archival work, bibliographies, and the reproduction of source material.
- Context for how a historian’s career intersected with libraries, museums, and public policy.
- Supplementary materials such as a bibliography and excerpts from reviews.
Ideal for readers of historical methodologies, archival studies, and the history of scholarship; a fitting addition to libraries that value primary sources and critical commentary on research practices.

Other policies

All Forgotten Books titles are printed on demand. The moment an order is submitted, it is automatically transmitted to our distributor and then forwarded to the printer, where it enters production. This process begins within minutes and is entirely automated.

For this reason, we kindly ask that you double-check the title, edition, and your shipping details before placing an order.
If you change your mind after ordering, you are welcome to return the book once it arrives, and a refund will be issued in accordance with AbeBooks’ return policy.
Please also make sure your address is correct before ordering as we will no be able to intervene and make changes before the book is shipped.
We can provide digital samples for all our print books ahead, so don't hesitate to reach out.
Returns
As a small publisher we do not have the facilities to resell returned books, so any returned book will be recycled. If the book is damaged or defective please continue with the return process, and thank you for letting us know so that we can improve our products. If you’re returning for another reason, however, please consider whether you could donate or gift the book instead so that it avoids the waste pile.
Thank you in advance!
