This is "Selected Letters of James Thurber", as edited by Helen Thurber (James's wife) & Edward Weeks. It is a reprint published in paperback format by Penguin Books. The book is illustrated with the inimitable comic drawings of James Thurber himself. On the back cover is the following blurb : "The creator of Walter Mitty, the Thurber Dog, and the Seal in the Bedroom was also a brilliant correspondent. His collected letters form a rich legacy of mirth, filled with the èlan and wildly dislocated vision that made him one of America's best-loved humorists. This priceless assortment of James Thurber's letters confirms what everybody knew anyway -- that he was one of the funniest and most likable writers in 20th Century America, and that his letter are an extension of his work and performances, as well as communications, by a man who could no more endure a sloppy sentence than Scotch with sarsaparilla." (Some of this from the "Los Angeles times Book Review") --- And that the book is full of Thurber's wonderfully quirky drawings is delicious icing on the cake!
