Finally, a book that will serve as a companion guide to lifelong eye health.
Every day, millions of people struggle to see the world clearly—and millions more don’t realize that vision loss is often preventable. Seeing for Life — How to Stop Vision Loss Before it Starts gives you the knowledge, tools, and confidence to protect your sight for life. Written by internationally recognized eye surgeon and educator Robert M. Kershner, M.D., M.S., F.A.C.S., this indispensable guide translates decades of medical expertise into clear, practical advice you can use right now.
Building on the foundation of Dr. Kershner’s landmark book, Seeing for Life — Clear Vision to Age 88 and Beyond, this companion manual takes you deeper into the “how” and “why” of the world’s most common eye conditions. You’ll discover exactly what’s happening inside your eyes, how to slow or stop damage before it becomes irreversible, and what you can do every day to preserve the gift of sight.
Inside you’ll learn:
• How your eyes really work—and what changes as you age.
• What’s normal and what’s not—from glare and halos to sudden blurriness or floaters.
• The truth about eye exams—what to expect, which tests matter most, and how to interpret results.
• Cataracts, glaucoma, macular degeneration, and dry eye—explained in plain English.
• Nutrition and lifestyle strategies that protect and restore visual function.
• Modern treatments and technologies—from lens implants and lasers to bionics and gene therapy.
• The essential questions to ask your eye doctor before any procedure or prescription.
• Step-by-step guidance for maintaining sharp, comfortable vision in your 30s, 40s, 50s, 60s, and beyond.
With warmth and authority, Dr. Kershner guides readers through every stage of visual wellness—whether you’re choosing reading glasses, preparing for surgery, or simply wanting to understand your own eyes better. Drawing on more than three decades of teaching and over 32,000 microsurgical procedures performed worldwide, he brings a rare combination of expertise, empathy, and clarity to the page.
What makes this book different is its balance of science and simplicity. Dr. Kershner cuts through the confusion, myths, and internet misinformation to explain what truly works—and why. He empowers readers to make informed choices, avoid unnecessary procedures, and take charge of their vision health with confidence.
Accessible, authoritative, and deeply reassuring, the widely acclaimed and international best seller, Seeing for Life — How to STOP Vision Loss Before it STARTS is more than a reference—it’s a roadmap. Whether you’re protecting your own sight, helping an aging parent, or preparing for the decades ahead, this book will help you make smarter decisions, form healthier habits, and see the world with clarity, comfort, and joy.
Your eyes are for life...now your vision can be, too.
