Print on Demand. This book centers on education and attention. It delves into the two types of attention: negative and positive. According to the author, many students only demonstrate negative attention, which is outward marks of attention without any real engagement. Positive attention, in contrast, requires pupils to be attentive with both their bodies and minds. They must be willing and ready to receive the knowledge being taught without having their minds otherwise occupied. The author argues that positive attention is more effective for both learning and for developing mental habits. The crux of the book is providing teachers with methods to develop positive attention in their pupils, ultimately improving their learning outcomes. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book.…

- Education
There is and there can be no teaching, where the attention of the scholar is not secured. The teacher who fails to get the attention of his scholars, fails totally. So writes a thoughtful educator, and every observant teacher knows that the statements are correct. The most important work of a teacher both in regard to the learning of school' lessons and the formation of proper mental habits by his pupils, is the development o£ the power to give concentrated and sustained attention to a subject.
