The most visited and accessible of all marine habitats, tidepools are home and nursery, refuge and hunting grounds for hundreds of species. In these amazing places, emotional dramas are enacted by some of the earth's oddest animals. In full-page, vivid color photos, this book shows bat stars grappling in ultra-slow motion battle, while urchins and snails move away at three times normal speed. A sea gull swallows a sea star whole, while fluorescent nudibranchs feast on equally colorful algae. This new edition of Diana Barnhart and Vicki Leon's fascinating look at an endangered ecosystem contains 25 percent new content along with a new glossary, index, further resources, and a fun fact section.
