Item description from seller

Hardcovers, six volumes in two slipcases, bound in quater brown buckram with spines lettered in gold and volume numbers printed against a red background. Titles include: The Gathering Storm; Their Finest Hour; The Grand Alliance; The Hinge of Fate; Closing The Ring; Triumph and Tragedy. Brand new set still in factory shrink wrap, which shows tears. This edition was first published by The Folio Society in 2000 and reprinted several times. The exact date / printing is unknown, as the books are unopened and still sealed, but it would be some time in the early 2000's. As a first hand perspective, most especially from a leadership standpoint, Churchill's six volume history written shortly after the war's end (1948-1953) is an important resource. As a literary work it ranks among the best of his prose, where his mastery of language could range across the globe championing important principles with an almost Victorian sensibility. As objective history his work has been criticized as a "master-class in memoir" and "self-vindication". Both can true, and it worth noting the work was largely responsible for his winning the Noble Prize for Literature in 1953. A gift quality, new set. A very heavy set, no International shipping available. Priority shipping within the USA will be charged at actual cost, please contact us before ordering.
