Your body is changing, and the way people talk about it hasn't caught up.
Hot flashes that arrive without warning. Sleep that used to come easily and now doesn't. A shorter fuse than you recognize. A fog where your sharpest thinking used to live. If you're somewhere in perimenopause or menopause, you already know this transition is real and it can be genuinely hard — and it deserves more than a shrug and a pamphlet.
The Second Spring offers two ways of understanding what's happening, side by side instead of asking you to pick one. Traditional Chinese Medicine has described this life stage for centuries through the slow decline of Kidney-Yin and the rise of what it calls "Empty Heat." Modern endocrinology describes much of the same territory through the HPO axis, shifting estrogen and progesterone, and a narrowing thermoregulatory zone. Different vocabularies, same lived experience — and having both on hand can make this stretch of life feel less like something happening to you and more like something you can work with.
Inside, you'll find:
- A clear walk through what's happening hormonally and energetically, without jargon overload
- Symptom-by-symptom chapters on hot flashes, sleep, mood, brain fog, and irregular cycles — chapters that validate first and explain second
- Daily and seasonal rhythms, food-as-medicine guidance, and an honest look at what the evidence actually shows for herbs like black cohosh and dong quai
- A full chapter on talking to your doctor about HRT and testing, because this book is meant to sit alongside good medical care, not instead of it
A note on HRT: hormone replacement therapy is a safe, effective, and often life-changing option for many women, and nothing in this book argues against it or any treatment your doctor recommends. This is a complementary perspective, not a substitute for medical care — if your symptoms are affecting your quality of life, please talk to your doctor.
Written in the same spirit as The Qi Hack, this is a book for anyone who wants to feel informed, validated, and less alone in a transition that deserves to be talked about honestly.
