Scriptores Nevrologici Minores Selecti sive Opera Minora ad Anatomiám Physiologiam et Pathologiam Nervorum Spectantia. Tomus III is an important 18th-century scholarly compilation of rare neurological treatises, edited and introduced by Christian Friedrich Ludwig (1749â"1784), professor of medicine at Leipzig. This third volume brings together numerous early studies on the anatomy, physiology, and pathology of the nervous system, including works by Behrends, Winsberg, Giard, Ludwig, Haase, Isenflamm, Michelitz, Ploucquet, Baur, and the famed anatomist Samuel Thomas von Sà mmerring. The text is richly illustrated with engraved anatomical plates, including finely detailed depictions of the brain, cranial nerves, comparative neuroanatomy across several species, and an extraordinary large folding plate showing the nerves and vessels of the arm and hand. The volume provides valuable insight into pre-modern neurology, experimental physiology, and early clinical observations that shaped the foundations of neurological science. The contents include extensive dissections, comparative anatomical plates, analyses of specific nerve branches, studies on embryonic neurodevelopment, and pathology-centered essays covering sensory nerves, cranial nerve distributions, muscular innervation, and early theories of nerve function. The engraved platesâ"many full-page and one oversized multi-fold plateâ"are accompanied by detailed Latin explanations. This tome represents one of the most significant early collections of neurological literature, offering both historical value and scientific importance to collectors of early medicine, neurology, and anatomical illustration. Condition & Binding:ÂBound in an early 19th-century dark leather spine with gilt tooling and later cloth-covered boards. The spine retains its elaborate gilt decorations and titling (âScriptores Nevrologici â" Ludwig â" 3â), though with expected rubbing, surface wear, and minor chipping at the head. Boards show edge wear and minor abrasions. Modern marbled endpapers present cleanly. Internally, the text is remarkably clean for the period, with only light foxing or toning on some pages. Plates are crisp, well-impressed, and complete, including the large folding anatomical plate of the arm/hand. Hinges remain solid; no loose pages noted. Overall- very good.…
