Add to basketHardcover, without dust jacket. Re-print of the original 1926 copyright. 8vo(5.75 x 8 in.). Black cloth over boards. Gilt titling on the front and spine. Gilt on the author line shows rulbbing and is diminshed. Binding is solid, corners are sharp. Edge wear is minimal. Pages are clean and still fairly bright. On the front and rear fixed pages are what appear to be adhesive shadows, perhaps from an original dust jacket. Burnham's biography is remarkable, starting with being raised on a Lakota reservation as a boy, moving into the cowboy life as a teenager. . His start as an adventurer included heading to the Klondike in pursuit of gold. Later he was in South Africa, involved in the Boer Wars as a British scout. There he befriended Robert Baden-Powell and they bonded over the skills and principles if scouting. Baden-Powell subsequently developed scouting programs for boys that, eventually, became the Boy Scouts. He credited Burnham as the model and inspiration of what scouting was all about. None of this is in the book, which mainly covers Burnham's years abroad in conflicts.Illustrations and photos appear within the text and there is a high quality section of photos and the very rear. Burnham dedicated this copy to a married couple and signed it "Yours sincerely, F.R. Burnham" , dating it 1938.
