Six issues making up volume 200 (1959), complete. Large and thick 4to, bound in red buckram in a single volume, gilt titling on the spine. These issues were bound for a private individual subscriber; no ownership markings and not an ex-library volume. Includes an article by James Van Allen ("Radiation Belts Around the Earth"), March 1959. According to a NASA website, "Located beyond low-Earth orbit, these radiation belts were discovered in 1958 by astrophysicist James Van Allen who helped uncover the key to enabling exploration of the outer solar system. Van Allen calculated that it was possible to fly through the weaker regions of radiation to reach outer space." Also in this volume is an article by Edwin H. Land, inventor of the Polaroid Land camera ("Experiments in Color Vision"), May 1959; and by Owen Gingerich ("The Solar System Beyond Neptune"), April 1959. Very good condition overall; contents clean, with some of the usual age-toning to page edges; a few light scratches on the cover and spine slightly faded. Seller Inventory # 5378
