Print on Demand. This book, an extensive and detailed examination of belief from a scientific and common sense perspective, presents a combination of religious, scientific, and philosophical viewpoints to support the idea of God and the Scriptures. The author, an experienced scientist, argues that science is not and should not be treated as separate from religion and philosophy, but rather that all three branches of knowledge can be used to understand the world and our place in it. The author presents a plain-language explanation of the nature of matter, force, and spirit, arguing that they could not have come into being by chance. The author also posits that vital life force is a distinct and specially created thing, and that the mind of man is superior to that of animals. This book is a valuable resource for anyone interested in the relationship between science, religion, and philosophy. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book.…

The general plan Of the volume is to present a plain sketch Of the nature Of matter, force, and spirit, as far as science and common sense can decipher them; and to Show that they could not have come of themselves by haphazard and could not work solely by their own self-created powers but must have arisen, and must work, according to the design and purpose Of a Supernatural power. It will also be endeavoured to be proved, that the vital principle, or life force, is a distinct force, and a specially created thing; and, above all, that the intel lectual mind, or spirit Of man, is a quality not only superior to, but essentially different from, the mind Of animals.
The author is an Old and devoted student in science, and it will be seen that his constant Object throughout is to endea vour, in a strictly scientific spirit - as distinguished from a mere blind and dogmatic faith - to reconcile modern scientific discoveries, and theories, and philosophic modes Of thought, with the Old belief in God and the Bible, such as was, and is held by so many of the wisest and best men Of the past, and Of the present.
