- Book 1 of 1: AI Readiness for Schools, Colleges, Students & Teachers
The book, "Make Your School AI Ready," is specifically targeted towards principals, school owners, and senior educators who are the decision-makers within a school. This book aims to clarify that AI readiness is not merely about teaching technical subjects like Python, IoT, or robotics to students. Instead, it presents AI readiness as a much more comprehensive concept encompassing all the threats and opportunities that AI creates for a school.
The book encourages Schools to start the 'AI Readiness Skills Mission' urgently. It also provides them a free toolkit for the same.
A school can be considered AI ready when it possesses the capability to make its students AI ready and ensure that its teachers are also AI ready. This book offers insights and clear, actionable inputs on what a school can do to achieve these goals. A key focus is on equipping teachers with AI readiness skills so that they are not replaced by AI in the future.
The book introduces the "AI readiness skills pyramid" as a central framework for understanding AI readiness. This pyramid has distinct layers that a school needs to develop:
- The foundational layer is Digital Citizenship and Internet Maturity (DCIM). This layer includes three core competencies that need to be developed in both students and teachers: online safety, online learning, and online reputation. The book suggests integrating DCIM as a regular subject in the school curriculum to build this foundational layer.
- The next layer consists of the four C's: critical thinking, creativity, communication, and collaboration. The book emphasizes that it is extremely important for all students and teachers to excel in these four C's because AI cannot replace humans proficient in these skills. Additionally, teachers are expected to develop the five C roles: being a creator of content, a curator of content, a conductor of flipped classrooms, a coach, and a counselor for their students.
- At the top of the pyramid are AI tools. The book highlights the importance of both students and teachers learning to make the best use of these AI tools.
In essence, "Make Your School AI Ready" provides essential guidance for school leaders to strategically prepare their institutions, educators, and students for the transformative impact of artificial intelligence.
