No date. c. 1890. 21 leaves. Folio. 35 cm. 9 chromolithographs by Julie von Kahle. German language text. Text in decorative borders. Red cloth. Lovely elaborate gilt design (incl. titles) on front cover. Small stain to top of back cover, minor rubbing to edges of boards, a bit of dusting to cloth. Bookplate on front paste-down, "Ex Libris Emilae Reif, Norimberga . Minor spotting, mild damstain to bottom corner of final pages. Hans Christian Anderson (1805-1875) was a Danish author best remembered today for his children's fairy stories. This is a German publication by Wagner of Anderson's 1852 story, "The Loveliest Rose in the World." Anderson's storytelling went on to inspire a new generation of children's authors in the late-nineteenth century such as Lewis Carroll, Kenneth Graham, Oscar Wilde, Beatrix Potter, and A. A. Milne.
