"The Scared Pirate Boy" by Jay Kidd

A heartwarming and humorous rhyming picture book for young children (ages 3–7).

Drake is a little boy with a big dream — he wants to become a real pirate! He has the hat, the eye patch, and even a trusty (but timid) parrot named Buzz. There’s just one problem: Drake is scared of almost everything — the crashing waves, the dark caves, the creaky ship, and the loud thunder of storms at sea.

In this delightful short story, Drake sets off on his very first pirate adventure with his dad. Together they face windy seas, mysterious islands, and plenty of silly pirate mishaps. With colorful illustrations, playful pirate humor, and catchy rhymes, young readers will laugh as Drake and Buzz learn that it’s okay to feel scared — and that real courage is taking the next step even when your knees are shaking.

At its heart, The Scared Pirate Boy delivers a powerful and much-needed message: every boy wants to make his dad proud. Through Drake’s journey, children discover the joy of father-son bonding, the warmth of acceptance, and the pride that comes from facing fears together.
