This item is printed on demand - it takes 3-4 days longer - Neuware -In 'The Scale of Perfection,' Walter Hilton, a key figure in medieval spirituality, presents a profound exploration of the soul's journey toward divine union. Written in the 14th century, this mystic treatise employs a contemplative and didactic style, interweaving scriptural references with personal piety. Hilton methodically outlines the steps of spiritual development, from the initial experiences of sin and contrition to the transformative love of God, employing an accessible yet elevated vernacular that resonates with both the contemplative and the scholarly. The work is situated within the rich context of late medieval mysticism, drawing influences from both mystical traditions and theological discourses of the time, establishing Hilton as a pivotal voice in this genre of literature. Walter Hilton, a clergyman and hermit, was deeply influenced by his own mystical experiences and the religious milieu of England during a period marked by both spiritual fervor and societal change. His background in the Augustinian tradition and his engagement with contemporary theological debates facilitated his insights into the nature of perfection and the human condition. Hilton's keen awareness of human imperfection and the relentless pursuit of divine grace symbolizes his compassionate approach to spirituality. For those seeking a deeper understanding of medieval mysticism and spiritual growth, 'The Scale of Perfection' is an essential read. Hilton's eloquence and profound theological insights continue to resonate, offering timeless guidance on the path toward holiness. This text invites both contemplation and intellectual engagement, making it invaluable for scholars and spiritual seekers alike. 212 pp. Englisch.…
