Paperback. Every breastfeeding journey is unique - and so is every goodbye.Saying Bye-Bye to Mama's Milk: A Gentle Weaning Story is a tender, honest picture book for toddlers and their families navigating the bittersweet transition of weaning. Through the story of Remy and their loving mother, this gentle book acknowledges what so many families feel but rarely see reflected on the page: that weaning can be hard for both child and parent, that it takes time, and that the love between them never goes away. With warmth and reassurance, this book walks little ones through the weaning process one step at a time - showing that even on the hard days, Mama's hugs, kisses, and closeness are always there. Full-color illustrations bring Remy's world to life with the gentle, expressive style of a career elementary art educator, making each page feel like a warm hug in itself.Written by Courtney Pulitzer and illustrated by her mother Charlene Atkinson, the book grew out of Courtney's own experience navigating the emotional process of weaning her son. Recognizing that so few children's books speak directly to toddlers about this transition, she created a story that helps children understand change while still feeling safe, loved, and close to the people who care for them.Perfect for reading together during the weaning journey, Saying Bye-Bye to Mama's Milk validates big feelings, celebrates growing up, and reminds every child that they are deeply loved - with or without Mama's milk.Ideal for parents, caregivers, lactation consultants, and birth education professionals, this book is a warm addition to any home library, pediatric waiting room, or breastfeeding support setting navigating the weaning transition alongside families. About the Authors:
Courtney Pulitzer has spent her life connecting people through her professional endeavors. She first became known in New York's emerging dot-com scene as a widely-read columnist, later launching Courtney Pulitzer's Cyber Scene, a newsletter covering the personalities and trends shaping the digital world. Her writing, always with an eye toward the social moments that bring people together, has appeared in numerous publications. Saying Bye-Bye to Mama's Milk: A Gentle Weaning Story grew out of Courtney's own experience navigating the emotional process of weaning her son from breastfeeding. She found that while many families go through this transition, very few books exist written for toddlers themselves - stories that can help a child understand changes while still feeling safe, loved, and close.
Charlene Atkinson is a retired elementary school art teacher, artist, and lifelong advocate for arts education. A graduate of SUNY Buffalo, where she studied Art and Art Education, she spent her career teaching art in public schools. Her guiding principle is that art is instrumental in education, and that every child deserves access to it. After retiring, Charlene channeled that same dedication into co-founding Char's Art Fund with her husband, a nonprofit that provided essential supplies to art teachers in public schools. Bringing her daughter's words to life on these pages was something no other illustrator could do for this book: she brought an educator's eye, a grandmother's love, and a mother's understanding of just how tender this story truly is.
