Original color photo of Satchel Paige in a Braves uniform throwing a baseball. Encased in a PSA slab ("Type II / Authentic"). About fine, with a tiny nick to top left corner. Overall, a great photo of the legendary pitcher later in life. Satchel Paige (1906-1982) had an incredibly long professional career, playing in the Negro Leagues from 1926 to the late 1940s, and finally joining the Cleveland Indians in 1948 when he was 42 years old. He was the seventh black player to join the major leagues, and the oldest player ever to debut in the MLB. In his rookie year with the team, he helped them win a World Series title. Sporting News ranked the blazingly fast pitcher 19th on its list of the 100 greatest baseball players of all time. This photo is from 1968, when Paige secured a role with the Atlanta Braves as an adviser to meet the five-year minimum service requirement for an MLB pension. Size: 3 ½" x 5".
