A VERY RARE 1921 MODERN LIBRARY EDITION WITH DUST JACKET! Sapho by Alphonse Daudet and Manon Lescaut by Antoine Prevost. First published by The Modern Library in 1919 this is a 1921 BONI & LIVERIGHT MODERN LIBRARY printing. This is a very rare early Modern Library book in dust jacket. May possibly be the first printing since the only copies that seem to be in existence are from 1921 - even the Modern Library collectors page has never seen a copy from 1919. Bound in brown imitation leather (spine #2) with Brodzky end papers. The book is in VERY GOOD+ condition with extremely bright gilt on cover and spine. Leatherette binding is clean tight and solid with minor wear at extremities. NO owners signature or any other writing anywhere in the book - contents very clean and bright. Brodzky endpapers are clean and bright. Solid binding, brown topstain nice. GORGEOUS! The dust jacket is GOOD+ with large chips on the spine and folds with age toning overall. Still very nice to have this complete of the dust jacket from this time period. The list of titles on the flaps and rear panel includes one from 1921, but none from 1922, indicating a 1921 printing. Again, there seems to be no book or dust jacket in existence from 1919 so this may be the actual first printing. Now protected in an archival-quality dust jacket protector.
