But Jackson's success, as Jeff Hudson's book reveals, has come with the knowledge that he has had to work harder for it than certain others. Why? Because the institutional racism which is rife within Hollywood actively discriminates against black actors. That's why, as an A-list black star, Jackson gets paid the same as a C-list white actor. That's why his screen characters are not allowed to have sex scenes with white actresses. And that's why, since the Oscars' inception in 1929, only three black actors have won the Academy Award for Best Actress or Actor. Everyone knows it goes on, but everyone knows that if you want the work - and the awards - you keep quiet. And Samuel L. Jackson has never been a man to bite his tongue, as this book aims to reveal.
