"It is no small task to write the story of a saint as an autobiography, incorporating the saint's own experiences and words. But Dan Paulos has done this well, with unique empathy, wholesome insight and humor. Both children and adults, reading I, Bernadette, will enjoy as I did, the sunny spirit and sturdy, enduring faith of the little saint of Lourdes, so beloved by Our Lord and by His holy mother, Mary."
- VIRGINIA BRODERICK
Artist. Liturgical Designer
"Dan Paulos has given us a refreshing new biography of Saint Bernadette of Lourdes, written from a unique first-person point-of-view. Dan's goal of re-introducing Saint Bernadette to a new generation succeeds, for his down-to-earth narrative tells Bernadette's story in a style simple enough for young readers of middle school age, and engaging enough to hold their attention. Older children and adults also will keep turning the pages, for Dan paints an inspiring portrait of this beloved saint and her miraculous encounter with the Blessed Mother."
- ANN CAREY
Author, Sisters in Crisis
"From the first words of the Introduction to the last page of this book we have in I, Bernadette, a most interesting and charming story of the saint... an original concept of the saint telling her own story in her own words. It is an inspirational book that I highly recommend. We have here another treasure from the multi-talented Dan Paulos, one of St. Bernadette's most ardent devotees."
JOAN CARROLL CRUZ
Author. The Incorruptibles
"Empathy is a big word, but it says well what Dan Paulos is attempting in his very special biography of Saint Bernadette. Putting oneself in somebody's place, getting under his/her skin, resonating with somebody's feelings, sharing in a person's suffering and joy: all of these are empathy. In our case, we should add "holy empathy." Dan's rendering of Bernadette's portrait is not only highly intuitive, but also deeply moving. It brings to life "holiness" at its best: as divine gift graciously given, graciously received, and generously shared."
