First published in 1931, this is the revised and much enlarged second edition of 1951. Edge wear and some chipping and short closed tears to top and bottom of jacket and spine, corners and folds slightly scuffed, not price clipped but price scribbled out in ink, previous owner's inscription to ffep, internally clean tight and square, overall a vg+ copy for its age. 350pp, illustrated. The definitive story of sailing barges. Frank George Griffith Carr (1903-91), was the second director of the National Maritime Museum, Greenwich from 1947 to 1966 and was responsible for restoring and preserving a large number of ships, such as the Cutty Sark and the Gypsy Moth IV. After retirement he was involved in the creation of the Maritime Trust and the World Ship Trust which served the purpose of preserving old ships. Quite scarce in this early edition.
