Since its launch in 2014, the nonprofit organization Writers Read has invited hundreds of writers onto our stage to present their work to live audiences in and around New York City. A maximum of 650 words, those stories on a broad variety of topics took just five minutes to perform, though their impact has lasted far longer. Our mission is to create performance opportunities for writers, and this collection assembles some of the most powerful personal true stories shared on our stage over our first decade. About the Author: Edward McCann, an award-winning writer and producer, is the founder of Writers Read, which creates performance opportunities for writers. Since 2014, Ed and a team of dedicated volunteers have worked to present hundreds of true, personal, five-minute stories at dozens of high-quality events with partners like Carnegie Hall, Bryant Park, Vassar College, the National Arts Club, and City Winery. Ed's own writing has appeared in many journals and magazines, including The Sun, The Irish Echo, and Country Living. He and his partner, Richard Kollath, share their Hudson Valley home with a Louisiana rescue mutt named Willie.
