xii+554+blank with colophon on verso+xvi (April 1891 publisher's science lists), 102 text figs; front end-gutter has paper split exposing netting but remains firm, innocuous small (15 mm) round stamp of Birmingham Assay Office Library bottom half-title, rear end-gutter has signs of incipient splitting but currently firm and unopened, central gutter between pp.288/289, slightly opening. Blind-stamped brown cloth covers with quite bright attractive blind-stamped decorative border-lines front and back are clean and minimally worn, gilt-lettered spine just a shade duller than boards.
