Surgical Science and Practice is a comprehensive, systems-based reference built for the realities of modern surgical training — bridging the gap between foundational pathophysiology and the operative decision-making that defines day-to-day clinical practice. Written for surgical residents, medical students on clinical rotations, and practicing clinicians who want a reliable single-volume resource, this book distills complex surgical science into clear, high-yield, clinically actionable content.
Inside, you'll find:
Core surgical physiology and pathophysiology — the mechanistic foundation behind every operative decision, from wound healing and fluid balance to the systemic response to surgical stress
Systems-based coverage of general surgery, spanning gastrointestinal, hepatobiliary, endocrine, vascular, trauma, and critical care surgery
Operative decision-making frameworks that walk through how and why surgeons choose one approach over another, including preoperative workup, intraoperative judgment calls, and postoperative management
Evidence-based technique sections that connect current literature and guideline-driven standards of care to real operative practice
Staging systems, algorithms, and clinical pearls formatted for fast review during rotations, call shifts, or oral board preparation
Case-oriented learning designed to mirror how surgical judgment is actually tested and applied in the OR and on rounds
Organized for both cover-to-cover study and quick point-of-care reference, this text is designed to reinforce the "why" behind surgical management — not just the "what" — so readers walk away with durable clinical reasoning rather than memorized facts.
Whether you're preparing for surgical clerkships, in-training exams, oral boards, or simply want a dependable clinical companion, Surgical Science and Practice offers the structured, evidence-grounded foundation every surgical learner needs.
Note: This text is intended as an educational reference and should be used alongside current primary literature and institutional protocols. It is not a substitute for individualized clinical judgment or licensed medical supervision.
