Tidy repairs to top and bottom of backstrip. Fine. Written as a guide for intrepid voyagers to Iceland and told in a personable chatty style, the author provides a colourful and exciting description of his travels. "A fresh breeze was blowing in our faces, and the dust raised by the pack-train was a great nuisance: it got into my eyes and nearly blinded me; it got down my throat and made me cough; it got between my teeth and made me feel as if I had breakfasted on mud-pie; it got inside my clothing and made me think that I had unintentionally been stealing some live stock from our last sleeping place: so uncomfortable did it make me, that, when it began to rain later on in the day, I hailed the change in the weather with delight, wet and cold being as nothing when compared with the abominable discomfort caused by the dust." He also succeeds at conveying many interesting facts and advice on how to provision and prepare for a trip. The appendices contain literal translations of three sagas: The Terror, Bandamanna Saga and Frey's Priest.
