The Internet did not invent stupidity. It learned how to monetize it.
Why does vulgarity travel faster than nuance? Why does outrage outperform reason? Why can a confident fool reach millions while expertise struggles to hold attention for thirty seconds?
STUPIDITY SELLS explores the strange economy we have built around human attention—and what that economy is slowly doing to us.
From influencers and viral outrage to algorithmic desire, personal branding, manufactured reality and Plato’s Cave with Wi-Fi, this book follows a disturbing but often darkly funny question: what happens when the oldest weaknesses of human nature meet machines capable of measuring, predicting and rewarding them at planetary scale?
But this is not another book blaming technology for everything.
Algorithms did not invent vanity, tribalism, envy, gossip, lust, fear or our attraction to spectacle. They found them already waiting. We clicked. They learned. Then they gave us more.
With philosophy, irony and an uncomfortable amount of recognition, Stupidity Sells examines how attention becomes traffic, traffic becomes money, money becomes incentive—and incentive eventually becomes culture.
Along the way, it asks harder questions:
Why do we reward people we claim to despise?
How much of what we desire is actually ours?
When did visibility become confused with value?
Why does certainty sell better than wisdom?
And if the algorithm is learning from our choices, what exactly are we teaching it?
This is not a call to abandon technology, social media or entertainment.
It is a call to remember something much simpler:
Attention is life measured in moments.
Stupidity will probably always sell.
The more important question is whether we intend to keep buying it.
Amazon itself recommends keeping descriptions focused, compelling and easy to scan rather than trying to summarize the entire book, so I’d use roughly this density rather than adding a chapter-by-chapter explanation.
