Father, policeman, administrator, politician, minister, freedom fighter,
refugee: Gordon Muortat Mayen lived a full life. In this gripping account
spanning more than 50 years, Muortat retells his journey from schoolboy
to president of South Sudan's provisional government to life as a refugee
in Zaïre, Belgium, and the UK. Engaging, thoughtful, and at times
humorous, Muortat's personal history is inextricable from the history of
South Sudan's liberation.
" Gordon Muortat Mayen is the embodiment of a genuine South
Sudanese patriot, astute politician, visionary, and revolutionary.
He has written an honest, detailed, and multi-faceted political
history of the South Sudanese struggle for independence. This is
a must read memoir! "
