Item description from seller

"Division of lipoproteins into the sub-sets "structural" and "soluble" is both natural and useful. It has been in the field of the soluble lipoproteins that the greatest advances have been possible, since the solubilization of the lipoprotein is often the most difficult step to manage in their purification. Tissues that contain appreciable amounts of soluble lipoproteins are blood serum or plasma, egg yolk, and milk. All these tissues have yielded well-characterized lipoprotein preparations, discussed in this volume. Many of these lipoproteins have been converted to apolipoproteins by extraction of lipids and used for structural studies of the type being carried out on globular proteins." [Foreword] The book is divided into three sections. A., General Introduction: The Physico-chemical Approach to the Study of Lipoprotein Interactions (Chapman); Phospholipid Monolayers (Pethica); Morphological Aspects of Lipoprotein Structures (Sjostrand); and A Physico-chemical Model of Nerve Membrane (Liquori). B., Structural Lipoproteins: Lipoproteins and Lipopeptides of Cell Membranes (Tria, Barnabei); Mitrochondrial Sructural Lipoprotein (Criddle, Willemot); The Lipid-Protein Complexes of Myelin (LeBaron); and Bacterial Phospholipids and Membranes (Op den Kamp, et al.). C., Soluble Lipoproteins: Chylomicrons (Zilversmit); Stucture of Very Low and Low Density Lipoproteins (Margolis); Serum High Density Lipoproteins (Scanu); Biosynthesis of Serum Lipoproteins (Marsh); Lipoproteins of Blood Coagulation (Barton); Control of Lipid and Lipoprotein Release and Transport (Galli, et al.); Milk Lipoproteins (Brunner); and [Avian] Egg Lipoproteins (Cook, Martin). 661 pages, with figures, tables, and 2 Indexes; plus xxiii pages prefatory matter, including Foreword (by J. L. Oncley). and Contents. DJ shows rubbing, creases, and color loss; boards are bumped at front lower leading corner, otherwise clean; text is clean and strong.
