1936, xv, 347pp, index, illustrated, bibliography. Inner hinges neatly reinforced, extremities lightly worn, else G. The author took charge of the administrative branch of Scotland Yard, the Criminal Investigation Department, in June of 1913. He retired in 1921. From the preface: "Now he has written the Yard's story. It is a book to read for its history, for the sheer fascination of the long record brought together in its completion for the first time. Here is the Yard from the inside, here are the men who made it and fought for it and built it to enduring greatness; here are the secrets of that greatness.".
