Bound in original green cloth, gilt in coloured pictorial dust wrapper, price clipped and chipped at the spine. Top edge gilt, other edges deckled. Foxing largely confined to preliminaries and edges; otherwise a very good copy. Illustrated by 5 colour plates, including frontispiece, 30 monochrome plates and by two plans in text. Decorated by title page vignette in red. A history of English gardens, mainly from the medieval period. Appendix II is a thirty page bibliography arranged chronologically. Eleanour Sinclair Rohde (1881-1950) was a distinguished garden creator, advisor, bibliographer and historian, based at Reigate, with a particular interest in herbs and herb gardens. A prolific author on these subjects, many of her works were published by The Medici Society until 1938. Parts of this book originally appeared in periodical articles.
