Tela editoriale con illustrata, cm 22 x 14.5, pp XVI 698 (6), numerose illustrazioni in nero. Collana Aretusa, Narrativa Classica Italiana e Straniera. Strappi sulla , peraltro in buono stato. Seconda edizione, stampata il 30 ottobre 1945 dalle Arti Grafiche G. Zacchetti, di questa versione del Gil Blas curata da Carlo Cordié (1910-2002) sulla base della traduzione anonima pubblicata da Croci nel 1873 e corredata di illustrazioni di Jean Gigoux dall'edizione parigina del 1835. Ugo Dettore (1910-1992), scrittore e traduttore, collaborò con Bompiani presso cui concepì il progetto del grande Dizionario letterario e in quella sede conobbe la moglie Bianca Ugo (1910-1982), traduttrice dal tedesco e l'inglese molto attiva negli anni '30 per Corticelli, Corbaccio, Mondadori, Elettra e lo stesso Bompiani. Sposati nel 1938 Dettore e Ugo fondarono nel 1942 una propria casa editrice intitolandola ad Aurelio Bianchi-Giovini, pubblicista anticlericale dell'Ottocento e nonno di Dettore. La Casa Editrice Bianchi-Giovini fu improntata al recupero di classici e alla traduzione di letterature straniere, patendo non pochi fastidi da parte del regime che spesso non concesse i nulla osta di pubblicazione e addirittura ordinò il sequestro e macero del Satyricon pubblicato nel 1943. La coppia si avvalse peraltro della collaborazione di intellettuali antifascisti quali Ada Prospero Gobetti e Massimo Mila, e nel 1944 fu brevemente incarcerata dai tedeschi a San Vittore. L'ambizioso progetto della Bianchi-Giovini partì con due collane di Saggistica letteraria («Europa») e letteratura («Aretusa»), e con l'Enciclopedia della Donna curata da Bianca Ugo; oltre a Dettore e Ugo, e ai succitati Prospero e Mila, tra i collaboratori della casa editrice ricordiamo Carlo Cordié, Mario Praz, Carlo Bo, Salvatore Fiume. L'ambizioso progetto editoriale, nonostante la pubblicazione nel dopoguerra di molti dei titoli bloccati dal regime, rimase largamente incompiuto e nella collezione Aretusa videro la luce solo 15 delle 150 opere previste. La separazione della coppia e le difficoltà economiche rallentarono molto i lavori; negli anni '50 Ugo Dettore iniziò a collaborare con Garzanti e la casa editrice Bianchi-Giovini, ormai proprietà della sola Bianca Ugo, languì fino a chiudere i battenti nel 1958. La curatissima collezione Aretusa resta una preziosa testimonianza di una delle più interessanti avventure editoriali italiane del '900. Strappi sulla sovraccoperta, peraltro in buono stato.

You may use the attached model cancellation form, but it is not obligatory. You can also electronically fill in and submit a clear statement on our website, under "My Purchases" in "My Account". If you use this option, we will communicate to you an acknowledgement of receipt of such a cancellation on a durable medium (e.g. by e-mail) without delay.
To meet the cancellation deadline, it is sufficient for you to send your communication concerning your exercise of the right to cancel before the cancellation period has expired.
Effects of cancellation
If you cancel this contract, we will reimburse to you all payments received from you, including the costs of delivery (except for the supplementary costs arising if you chose a type of delivery other than the least expensive type of standard delivery offered by us).
We may make a deduction from the reimbursement for loss in value of any goods supplied, if the loss is the result of unnecessary handling by you.
We will make the reimbursement without undue delay, and not later than 14 days after the day on which we are informed about your decision to cancel with contract.
We will make the reimbursement using the same means of payment as you used for the initial transaction, unless you have expressly agreed otherwise; in any event, you will not incur any fees as a result of such reimbursement.
We may withhold reimbursement until we have received the goods back or you have supplied evidence of having sent back the goods, whichever is the earliest.
You shall send back the goods or hand them over to us or Dedalo M. Bosio - Libri antichi e usati, via Palmieri 22/F, 10138, Torino, Italy, 39 0114345263, without undue delay and in any event not later than 14 days from the day on which you communicate your cancellation from this contract to us. The deadline is met if you send back the goods before the period of 14 days has expired. You will have to bear the direct cost of returning the goods. You are only liable for any diminished value of the goods resulting from the handling other than what is necessary to establish the nature, characteristics and functioning of the goods.
