SPRING ARCHAEOLOGY ATTI DEL CONVEGNO SIE

Spring Archaeology è nato dall’urgenza di offrire a giovani ricercatori e professionisti l’opportunità di mettersi alla prova e mostrare il proprio lavoro. Questo evento rappresenta un viaggio attraverso le molteplici sfaccettature dell’archeologia in Italia, un paese ricco di storia e innovazione. Promosso da un gruppo di studenti e archeologi dell’Università di Siena, ha attirato studenti universitari, laureati, dottorandi, liberi professionisti e associazioni culturali. Le presentazioni e i poster si concentrano sull’applicazione delle nuove tecnologie in archeologia, lo studio della cultura materiale, i progetti di archeologia pubblica, i progressi nella ricerca e le considerazioni sulle questioni metodologiche.

Tutti i curatori sono archeologi laureati presso l’Università di Siena, ciascuno specializzato in diverse aree. Andrea Bellotti è un archeologo libero professionista che si concentra sull’Archeologia Pubblica e la comunicazione sui social media relativa al patrimonio culturale. Luca Luppino sta conseguendo un dottorato presso l’Università di Roma La Sapienza nel programma di Heritage Science, con interessi di ricerca nell’architettura domestica proto-bizantina e nell’applicazione della modellazione 3D e della ricostruzione in archeologia. Maria Messineo, archeologa libera professionista, è specializzata in Data Science ed Etruscologia, con un forte interesse per l’applicazione del deep learning all’archeologia. Mickey Scarcella è specializzato in archeologia del paesaggio, Sistemi Informativi Geografici (GIS) e cartografia.

Spring Archaeology was born from the urgency of providing young researchers and professionals with an opportunity to prove themselves and showcase their work. This event is a journey through the many facets of archaeology in Italy, a country rich in history and innovation. Promoted by a group of students and archaeologists from the University of Siena, it has attracted undergraduate, graduate, and PhD students, as well as freelancers and cultural associations. The presentations and posters focus on the application of new technologies in archaeology, the study of material culture, public archaeology projects, advances in research, and considerations on methodological issues.

Andrea Bellotti has a Master's Degree in Archaeology from the University of Siena where he is currently a research fellow. Specializing in Public Archaeology and social media communication related to cultural heritage, he is the creator of Let's Dig Again, the first archaeological podcast in Italy, which aims to explain the work of the archaeologist to the public.

Luca Luppino is currently enrolled as a Master's Degree student in Archaeology at the University of Siena. He has worked on archaeological excavations in the Mediterranean context, including Vignale Riotorto in Tuscany (IT), Monforte San Giorgio in Sicily (IT) and Gortyna in Crete (GR), specializing in the Late Antique and Byzantine period. He deals with public archaeology and the application of new technologies to traditional excavation methodologies, such as the use of UAVs and 3D reconstructions.

Maria Messineo is a freelance archaeologist with a Master’s Degree from the University of Siena, currently fascinated by Data Science and specializing in Etruscology. She worked on several excavations in Italy such as Grotta dello Scoglietto, Marsiliana d'Albegna, Monzambano and Roselle, ranging from Prehistory to the Roman period. Maria deals with problems concerning the definition of ancient cities' territorial boundaries using geomorphology, material culture, toponyms, religious and funerary contexts as markers.

Mickey Scarcella has a Master’s Degree in Archaeology from the University of Siena. He's specialized in landscape archaeology, Geographical Information System (GIS) and cartography. He worked on several archaeological projects at the University of Siena, from prehistorical context to the byzantine period. Mickey currently works as a freelance archaeologist.
