Slip of paper, approximately 2.5" x 5" bearing José Ignacio Pavón's signature. Very light foxing to paper. Item appears to have been clipped from a larger document. Reads: "Dios y Libertad. México" and is dated October 5, 1837, with Pavón's signature beneath the statement and the word Veracruz (Pavón's birthplace) in lower corner. José Ignacio Pavón was a conservative Mexican lawyer, jurist and politician, notable for his two day stint serving as acting president during a time of political unrest in August of 1860. --L.H.
