8vo, first edition, pp, 278, half-title, publisher's catalogue to rear gilt titled green cloth lettered in black to the top cover, inscription on the leading paste-down endpaper, light age-toning, corners of top cover very slightly bumped, a decent copy. The author was a short story writer and novelist, married to fellow author Leila Macdonald. Their marriage was not a happy one and when the couple were on the verge of divorce he disappeared on the 4th November, 1896. His body was eventually found in the Seine. He was 26 years of age.
