Small quarto, 10 in. x 6.25 in., pp. cxiii, [1], 300. Illustrated with seven fold-out plates/maps. Burgundy cloth b oards with two bands and central sun design stamped to front and back. Gilt title to spine. Rubbing to edges and spine ends; touch of sunning to spine. Corners lightly nudged. Printed marginalia. Sticker scar to front pastedown. Fold-out maps in VG+ condition. Haliday, Charles (1789? 1866) was an Irish banker, bibliophile, and antiquary. His historical pursuit extended to the Ostmen or Vikings who had founded the place and he made good use of Scandinavian as well as Irish sources. It culminated in the posthumous, The Scandinavian kingdom of Dublin (1882; 2nd ed., 1884), edited by his friend John P. Prendergast. (from DIctionary of Irish Biography).
