Practical guidance for Presbyterian ruling elders
Ruling Elders' Hand-book provides a concise, how-to guide for the elders who help govern a church.
It explains the elder’s calling, duties, and the biblical and practical basis for church leadership. The book is focused on applying good governance, pastoral care, and faithful service in real congregational life.
Structured to help elders and session members work well with trustees, deacons, and the larger church body, it covers how meetings are run, how elections are conducted, and how the church polices its spiritual mission. It aims to equip readers with clear expectations, practical steps, and a steady, prayerful approach to leadership.
- Defines the office and authority of the ruling elder within the church’s government
- Explains meeting procedures for congregations, sessions, and elections
- Addresses oversight of church societies, finances, and property in harmony with church law
- Offers practical guidance for shepherding souls and guiding the congregation with wisdom
Ideal for readers involved in church leadership, governance, or who want a grounded, hands-on approach to Presbyterian elder duties.
