Rubens: His Life, his Work, and his Time by Emile Michel in Two Volumes By Emile Michel Translated by Elizabeth Lee, Complete in Two Volumes, with Forty Colored plates, Forty Photogravures, and Two Hundred and Seventy-Two Text Illustrations, William Heinemann, London, 1899, green blind cloth with gold embellishments, 12.5 x 9 , 4to. In good condition. Light wear to extremities with minor scuffing and rubbing to corners and end bands. Slight soiling and mild staining to covers with minor fading to spine and edges. Gilt work is bright and clean. Spines have small instances of splatter marks at bottom edges. Small patch of dirt at bottom right corner of volume one front board. End papers moderately foxed but free of markings. Frontis in volume one is slightly ripped at gutter. A plate is loose as well, but both volumes are complete. Gutters tender. Bindings intact. Light toning to edges of text blocks. Considering age and size, these remain well-preserved. Please see photos. Nicely illustrated volumes of Peter Paul Rubens, the Flemish artist and diplomat.
